From: Domain atrophy creates rare cases of functional partial protein domains
Within-domain atrophy: Glycosyl hydrolase family 10. The Glycosyl hydrolase family 10 domain of Thermotoga petrophila endo-1,4-beta-xylanase reference protein bound to xylobiose (pink) (PDB: 3NJ3) folds into a TIM-barrel structure. The atrophied region of C. albidus, inferred through sequence mapping, comprises structural elements β4, α3 and α4 (orange, residues 110-176) and would lose one of the active site residues Glu150 (grey).
